There is a lot going on with this skirt
I altered this skirt a few weeks ago. The original skirt that I bought last summer (geez, I'm so slow) is the pink and orange floral part. I wanted to lengthen the hem so I just started sewing... fabric, ribbon, buttons...pom-poms...I wasn't really giving my decisions much thought. About 45 min. later here we are. It's busy...but with a plain black T and the perfect pair of black mary janes (I have yet to find) I think it will be cute. The ribbon is purely decorative, but the pom fringe adds some weight which helps the hem to hang right. The above photo is the front, here is the back-
I didn't have enough of the black and white ferny fabric (found at thrift, so it's gone for good) so I added a piece of this polka-dot. I attached a button at each intersection of ribbon. Check out the the close up of the black and white one with the couple on front. It's glass and it came in a jar of black buttons I found at a yard sale 2 summers ago. I don't know anything really about buttons, but I think this one is special.
Anyway, this is very spontaneous and patch-worky. But I think it will be OK??? When I showed Mark he just kind of smiled. One of those smiles that could go both ways...I couldn't read him.
Me: "What? Is it stupid or cute?" He: "uhh, It's you...and you're cute." Thanks hon. I think.
Happy Mother's Day to all my dear readers that are blessed to be called "mommy"!! xo.
See you next week .

i think it is very cute
and i think the black and white material
at the bottom not only grounds it
but also will make it look
that much better with your plan
of pairing with black T
and black maryjanes
(wah. i want black maryjanes too)
heehee
are you going to post the whole outfit?
you should.
not that i'm trying to be bossy.

love that skirt! love, love, love it! I love the mix-match of fabrics, trim and buttons. If I can ever get a good a-line skirt pattern drafted for myself, I may just have to take inspiration from this. I second the request to post the whole outfit. I'd love to see it! Happy Mother's day to you too!

Like the skirt, and about those Mary Janes... Mine aren't EXACTLY Mary Janes, but I love them. They are FootPrints which are made by Birkenstock I think and when I got them I tried on these which are more Janish I think: http://www.footprints.de/english/index.html
