spring, you are very welcome

The first day of spring. So nice. I'm welcoming it with a new banner, how do you like it?  I must have taken 50 pictures today of my clothesline, just because. I have often asked myself why am I so in love with clotheslines? Many reasons I think. That might be a good chat for another post.

Like most people, come spring I start taking a closer look at my wardrobe. Along with weeding out the old and storing away the winter things---I also want to see if I can bring new life to an old favorite. That brings me to this skirt. I bought it second-hand 2 or 3 years ago. It's linen so it's comfy and cool and the style is plain and simple--I've loved it!  But, I think it's time for a change.

wip skirt redux

I have long been keen on altering clothing. In fact the thought is always percolating somewhere in the files of my head. I'm just not very confident that I'll end up with something I can actually wear! I've had one too many times of making clothes that never hung right, looked right, fit right. Except for pj's. Who cares if your jammies aren't just right as long as they are comfy.

Here's a close up of the fabrics I want to use to re-make this skirt. They are a recent sale purchase that I thought looked so cute together. Since I'm only going to change the bottom, I shouldn't have any fitting issues, right? Maybe some hanging issues?  Wish me luck. I'm going to cut up an old friend.

Best of luck- it looks like a nice fabric combination. Can't wait to see it done!

LOVE the banner.

For some reason, I can't see the new banner. Maybe it'll pop up tomorrow.
Good luck with your skirt!

Your new banner is so sweet! I really hope to build a clothesline this summer, sun-dried clothes sound so wonderful!

Good luck! I'm sure the end result will be great! You have a very good eye for fabrics and pattern combinations.

Cute clothes on the line. It's so old fashioned yet elegant...I love it! I think your skirt is going to look just marvelous. Can't wait to see.

I've thoroughly enjoyed seeing all your wonderful posts. Thank you for sharing.

Happy spring and good luck sewing. You have inspired me to start dusting off my sewing machine and start working on my project.
Enjoy reading reading blog.

i bet your project will be turn out great. can't wait to see the result!

Lots of luck!!! And your banner is wonderful. Please do speak of clothes lines in another post. I too am obsessed with them.

That is a BEAUTIFUL banner - just right for the new beginning that comes with Spring. :-) I'm really looking forward to seeing the re-worked, skirt as well. You do everything so prettily and with such heart!

Best of luck. The fabrics are lovely.

Fantastic banner for you. Good luck on the restyling -- you'll do fine I think. I'm slow but we are just getting a clothesline installed. I hope to catch the love soon.

Could you simply add to the skirt instead of cutting it?? Just a thought....

And I couldn't see the banner either until I hit refresh. Oddly, I could see the new post but not the new banner (until I refreshed). So, for all of you who cannot see the banner, hit refresh. It is worth it.

Beautiful pic!! Perfect for a banner.

Good Luck,
I'm sure it will turn out lovely and your choice of fabrics for that linen are perfect. The banner is for sure, a spring is here one. That sky is so beautifully(is that a word?) blue. Love it too.

So inspiring! I was just thinking how drab my winter banner is and that it's time for it to gooooooooo!

I remember reading about a book that had been written about disappearing clotheslines. It was somehow about how the social structure about how our society has changed with the abolishment of them.

The new banner is very lovely. I too love clotheslines. It reminds me of the times spent at my grandmothers house. Nothing smells so fresh as clothes dried in the fresh air... wonderful. I know the skirt will be beautiful, and I love the fabrics you chose. Happy Spring time...
