the noah update
For Rebecca, who was wondering what Noah is up to these days.
At the moment, Noah likes:
~animals, all kinds. especially birds. (ie: see the eagle in his mouth above)
~yogurt, with sprinkles on top (sprinkles = wheat germ)
~catching lizards in our front yard
~going to the library to use their computer
~watching documentaries on the ocean
At the moment, Noah is learning:
~everything about birds. he is rarely seen without his field guides.
~how to play backgammon
~to remember to put his shoes on before going outside. mom does not like to fish out splinters.
~that some spiders are dangerous, and please do not pick up every one you see. please.
At the moment, Noah is:
~full of energy. I think he could supply a small factory with power if they could harness him down.
~a talker. he talks all the time. and we listen. someone told me a long time ago that if you want your teenagers to talk to you, then you had better listen to them when they are 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.... I've never forgotten that.
~very social, but not past his bedtime. he reminds me some nights that he needs to get some sleep.
~a creature of habit. every morning he curls up in the same chair and tells me he's hungry. he waits while I make him hot cereal. always hot cereal. don't offer him cold cereal, because even though he may eat some, he'll still be wondering when the hot cereal will be done.
Forever he will be:
Our surprise package we could never live without.

There are few changes around here you may have noticed...new banner, photo, and I updated my About page. Kind of in a fun, silly way. But it's all true :)
I'm off to Texas on Wednesday for 5 days and taking with me the suggestions of places to go from my last post--thank you for that!
See you after I get back.
T.

I must say, I had been missing that Noah! Thanks for the delightful update and memories of a little boy of my own, now grown. Have a great trip, enjoy your time with your mom. My favorite banner so far!

Have fun in Texas. You picked a good time of year to go. We're having a bit of unseasonably cool weather for this time of year (cool for us, I mean). I wouldn't suggest to anyone to visit Texas in July or August unless they love heat and high humidity! :-)

Last children are so special. He sounds just like my youngest brother who has grown up to be the most gorgeous guy ever. Maybe it is growing up surrounded by all of that love and attention.

Toni, thanks for the post. The part about talking with teenagers, and listening to your kids. I need to pay more attention to that. Noah's looks are changing....as are the looks of my two boys. Makes me happy/sad to see them getting a bit older. Need to s.l.o.w. down a bit, especially with summer just around the corner. We should make the most of our long days. Okay, enough rambling. Have a safe/fun trip to the Lonestar State.

What a great post! He seems like such a sweet kid:)
I am definitely going to remember that listen to them talk for when I have kids! What great advice:)

I wish Noah and Bea could play. She would ADORE him - she does the same stuff (only as a 3.5 year old would). Have a great time in Ft. Worth. I don't have crafty suggestions up there but if you like art museums they have 2 fantabulous ones.

Thanks for the Noah Update - what a neat kid! I get the feeling that he and Schecky would get on like a house on fire. (Oh! But we would have to *watch* them like the hawks they are both so fond of. I shiver a little to think of the mischief I suspect they could get up to!)
Have a lovely time - travel safe!

See? Everyone likes a Noah update. It is a combination of what a great kid he seems to be and how your mommy voice comes out, obvious with love and devotion. Noah updates are my favourite. Not everyone is so in tune with their children that they can say so much about each one in such detail. You inspire me to be more connected with my little girls.....
Thank you so much for indulging me with a Noah update!
The teen years scare me. I'm so afraid to lose connection with my daughters. I'll listen. I'll listen as much as I can to stay connected. Thanks for the advice. It is so simple but sounds so powerful.
As always, enjoying your blog and enjoying you!

Your little Noah is adorable!! My three have so much energy my DH and I joke around with inventing something to harness that energy for just 15 minutes, 3 times a day---it would be enough power for our whole block!!
Great update, and I love your new banner! Very nice!!

i loved reading this post. noah sounds so much like Emma. She is always seen with her binoculars around her neck and bird field guide in hand. And I keep finding little nests that she's made tucked in places around the farm. Her library books of choice lately are always field guides. I bet the two of them could have a good time together.
And the sleep thing sounds very familiar, too. She's old enough to skip her nap, but just barely holds it together until bedtime...
