my daughter the baker
All the messes she made in the kitchen when she was younger is paying off big time! My little gal can make a blueberry pie that will make your eyes roll with pure satisfaction and a mean butter cookie that we have thought of selling more then a few times. Now she is all excited about bread. My father-in-law sent me an out dated bread machine that he picked up from the senior thrift (a man after my own heart) and for the last 2 days she has been giving it quite the work out! The house pretty much smells like baking bread non stop.
A word of encouragement to all the mamas--let your kids work in the kitchen, make a mess, experiment and then teach them how to clean it all up. At the very least they will learn some new skills. In Hannah's case, we would not be one bit surprised if she opened her own bakery one day. I'm so glad I let her fling the flour around when she was little!
What's up with me? Well, I pretty much feel married to Felt Club until it's over. All my spare moments are being spent making, making, making. I made 5 more sisters for Amelia (scroll one post down) and at the moment I'm working on some jewelry, hoping to get some stationary made with my Gocco and I have an apron idea that I hope turns out as I envision it. So yep, putting my crafty iron in many fires these days. Next post some pictures of it all if I can swing it.

Hi Toni...
First let me say your daughter is beautiful, and second you look like sisters! It is nothing like the smell of fresh baked bread... And if you decide to sell those butter cookies let me know, I love them!
P.S. Cannot wait to see Amelia's sisters..
Have a lovely day

Ahhh... the smell of yeasty rising dough and baking bread!
One of the things I tried for the first time during last month's Fiscal Fast was baking my own bread (I used the US Vogue version of the No Knead recipe - happy to send you a scan if you're interested) and it's a habit I plan to keep up as one of the side effects is the house smells delicious from 3pm Friday to 1pm Saturday each week.
Great photo, btw!

You are so right about letting them make a mess and cleaning it up.Maisie has been cooking and baking since she was little too and even aged 11 she can now do justice to any recipe she gets her hands on and adapt to suit her needs. Her flapjacks are the best! It's hard to let go and leave them to it at first but the rewards are amazing aren't they!

griffin loves to help me in the kitchen too. and even though some times i don't want him in there, his following-instructions skill has improved tremendously.

What a wonderful smile Hannah has! I love teeth and those are some beauties! Baking is such a win-win. Everyone's tummy is well fed as is the baker's soul. I am rooting for that little bakery!

What a lovely and talented girl you have there. And your FIL sounds like a real catch, too! :)
My almost eleven-year-old daughter has inherited her dad's palate and love of cooking. I made the chili last night and she whipped up a MEAN batch of cornbread. The miracle? I did not ONCE step foot inside the kitchen. No correcting, suggesting or second-guessing. No Hovering. I pat myself on the back (LOL!). It was a great meal.
Maybe your daughter will put herself through college with those pies and cookies! Never know !! :)
Blessings!

Will you be selling Hannah's cookies via Etsy you think?? If so, you've got another customer here--LOL! Looks like all the kitchen messes are well worth it. What a beautiful, happy, clever girl you have. Can't wait to see your new creations! :o)

I completely agree Toni. Let the kids make their messes (and clean them up). How else are they going to learn? Kids can watch you and listen to you all day in the kitchen. But DOING is where the learning takes place.
That bread looks great. Great photo too.
HANNAH'S BAKERY....yes! Has a very nice ring to it. Tell her to keep baking.
