the outside in
Aren't these flowers gorgeous? I buy them all the time at a small market I frequent. For the life of me I can never remember their name--it starts with an A. They are always cheap, this generous bunch was only 4.00 I have come to really need flowers or something fresh and green in the house as much as possible. I don't find it frivolous, I think it quite necessary! The challenge lies in finding affordable bouquets (for me, that means rarely spending more then 6 or 7 dollars) or collecting what I can from our yard (or swiping greenery from a friends yard! with permission of course) Bringing the outside in makes a home cozy and bright and adds so much beauty. A lot of bang for your buck :)
Do you see that runner under my vase? That is actually this scarf. I love surprising myself with new uses for things I already have and were intended for a different purpose. I will probably keep it as a runner. I always thought it was a bit short as a scarf.

Hi Toni,
Sorry I can't help you out with the name of those beautiful flowers. I agree with bringing flowers into the house. I am thinking of trying to force some bulbs. Just a thought at this point though.......lol.
love the fabric for your scarf/runner. I feel like I don't have that kind of imagination to see objects/things for more then they are. I am trying though.........lol
But of course you have great taste! So I always look at your blog/flickr account to get inspired and say to myself well I would have never thought of that!!! LOL
Have a great evening!!

Alstromeria. Lovely flowers, gorgeous colors

I was going to say AZALEAS
They grow very well down here in the South. Everyone has them in their yards.

Yes, definitely alstroemeria. I had these in my wedding bouquet - too long ago! Really easy to grow if you feel inclined. Love the fabric you've used in your scarf. Very, very nice. Have a great weekend.

I love your flowers. I need to get some for my desk next week. My husband is allergic, so none this weekend, but I am so getting some for Monday.

Yep, that's right. Alstroemeria. I used to work in a flower shop and loved adding these beauties to bouquets. They're so colourful and long lasting.
Your scarf/table runner looks lovely

They are such a lovely, cheap flower that last so long. My favourite colours are the white and red. They look so good en masse.
I have the pink ones growing in my garden, they spread so easily. You can also get the dwarf variety for planting very easily, at least in Australia.
The runner looks great - clever idea!

Definitely alsromeria...they come in so many wonderful colors! Great scarf-runner idea. Actually, I have an ultra-fine lace table runner that I wear as a scarf sometimes--too lovely to just let it lie around all the time. Happy weekend to you & yours ((HUGS))

The only problem with alstromeria is that, though they last a long time, when they're done, they're DONE. And they drop all their petals in one fell swoop! But we love them, too, and have fresh flowers as often as we possibly can for the same reason.

I love that they last forever! So many pretty colors and the blooms are lovely, too!

I love that they last forever. Such lovely colors and blooms aplenty, too!

I love alstroemeria! Yours are a lovely color. They seem to last forever, which is a plus.
The scarf makes a perfect runner! Great fabric! It's so nice to find alternative uses for things :)

I have the most wonderful patch of Alstrameria in my garden and they are such lovely cut flowers. You should try and grow some as they are as hardy as anything, and spread like a weed.

As you now know they are Alstrameria. I guess three years at horticulturial college I did learn something!!! As a flosist I find I have a need for flowers in the house, having been through some difficult times finincially I would still buy flowers...cup of coffee out or a cheap bunch of freshness...the flowers always won. We are surrounded by so much electrical stuff at home I think it really helps balance out our lifestyles. Love the table runner...cool idea.
