giving away some goodness
edited: my international friends are welcome to put your name in, I don't think the shipping will be too much. also, it sounded like a few of you might have thought i wanted a book in return--no! just pass along a title of one you love--if you want :)
I came across another copy of this great book at the thrift store the other day so I nabbed it! Books like this are just too good to pass up, even if you own a copy already. I mean, there are always crafty friends who can appreciate these bound wonders so I want to pass this copy along to you! The title is: Pictures In Patchwork, by Marie-Janine Solvit. (oops! no cover photo!)
The colors and shapes on these pages really inspire me. I love the 2 in the right top and bottom corners. Here are a few more pics. of the inside...
The book is full of color and black and white photos + illustrations. It was hard to choose what to show you, there is a ton more that are great. The author covers such topics as: techniques, materials, tools, planning, choosing a color scheme and more. This copy is a soft cover, published in the US in 1977. It was first published in France under the title Le Patchwork in 1976.
I love how inspiration can work--it's not that you always want to reproduce exactly what you see--for myself, I always want to come up with my own thing--but inspiration conjures up excitement about shapes, colors, design, textures, new ideas etc... you know? It's food for your own crafty soul. But you guys know that already I'm sure. I just wanted to type it out.
Leave me a comment if you would like to be included in the give-away, and I'll draw one name at random on Sunday evening. Hey--you could also pass along any vintage craft book titles that you like. I'm always up for discovering new-old books.

Yey! Please count me in, the book looks delicious!

Years ago I saw a quilt of pictures here online and never again came across the crafter's blog. Perhaps she used a book like this as her guide? I would love to be included in this give-away. Nice of you to think of this.

Yummy, yummy...it makes my fingers itch of creativity...(but count me out of the give-away of obvious geographical reasons ;-) )
At our hospital hangs a gorgeous AMAZING patchwork in green and red. There are tiny squares in it witch all pictures different things such as an appletree, a little girl with pigtails, a tiny boat and so forth.
Yesterday I went fleemarketcrazy so to speak. With GPS (otherwise I would never had made it home again) I drove away with my two little kids. I was in fleemarketheaven when I discovered that almost everyone had the offering of 50% off. Colorful aprons for easter for the kids (and the wicked witched mum), blue fabrics, an old suitcase, buttons and pins and many more findings practically free. I was in heaven. :-)
I'm so jealous of you, being able to homeschool your children. I'm a teacher and would love to tuit my own children, but in Sweden we just doesn't have that kind of an educational system.

Would love it ! But I don't know if the shipping would not be too expensive. If it is, nevermind, I'll do without this gorgeous book... :o (
Anyway, I came today with a special purpose : I tag you ! I received a meme on my brand new blog and thought it would be fun to pass it to you.
In case you don't read french, let me translate it for you : you have to write a post telling 6 details of your private life that look like Manias or tics. I think my few readers now think I am a psycho, but well, it was kinda fun ! :o)
Oh, and after that of course, you have to tag 6 other persons.

I love the images you chose to share. I myself have no vintage books to swap. I always intend to go on a hunt for some but I haven't found the time.

toni- this book looks fabulous! so far my all time favorite is "the stitches of creative embroidery"- definitely taught myself to embroider from that. i also love (in a different way) "don't throw it away" that one's more of entertainment though.

You know its funny, I adore old books...well I like books full stop!!! BUT my four year old has a special passion for them, not the bright colours and fast cars of today, no he prefers faded muted colours with bunnies and badgers doing all sorts of things like having afternoon tea or playing in a tent...There must be something in this as only last week I saw a pretend 'vintage' book...Topsy and Tim in a tea stained type cover...sadly the story was very NOW so it lost some of its appeal.
