how to sew a nifty pocket

With the help of Nate (filming), Micah (guest appearance) and my nephew Sam (editing and getting it on you tube) I've managed my first video tutorial. There is a terrible amount of nervous hand fiddling and my nephew thought that the "talking hands" was a bit disconcerting... oh well. My crew and I were only up for so many retakes. Although I do have to agree with Sam, watching a pair of hands fiddle while I give my intro is strange. Since I'm not trying to break into Hollywood, I think this will do just fine for the purpose. Oh, one more thing, if all of you already make your pockets like this (as Micah does!) please, go easy on me. I don't get out much.

P.S. Watch for the slowly disappearing fabric piece off to the left. Nathan was apparently bugged by it sitting there while he was filming. Picky, picky.

hELLO tONI,

No I did not do pockets this way...I thank you for the tutorial...this way is much easier than the way I was doing it...(and I hated making anything with pockets because they never turned out the way I wanted them to)

So thank you...(I gigled when I noticed the disappearing fabric **giggle giggle**)

~simply~

Very nice litle tutorial!

I've been adding pockets to tote bags lately and I hate the double-folding technique. I'm definitely going to give this a try!

(Next I could use a spelling tutorial for the word "little." Argh.)

I just made a new bag and oh how I wish I had seen your tutorial first! Such a great little video! Thank you!

No, I don't make my pockets that way...sorry Micah! It's a great tutorial and I'll be using it to add pockets to totes, etc! Thanks!

Hi, Toni, thanks for the cool tut! No, I hadn“t learned to make pockets that way.
I liked watching your video (and the disappearing fabric), and it was cool to hear your voice after all this time (is that stalker-ish?)!

Great tutorial! It was easy for me to understand, I might go make one right now!

{P.S- I love your blog!}

Congratulations on the video tutorial! Takin' it one step further with the video aspect...nice job! :)
I'm so new to sewing I haven't had to encounter any pockets yet, so its nice to have the know how before the need!

You have a wonderful and charming video there... thanks for the help!!

Brooke :)

so nice to hear your lovely voice Toni !!! and I'm relieved to know I do pockets about the same way :) excepted I leave the bottom open and not the sides... but I may try the saides, looks good too !
how about the tuto about how to post a video on YouTube now ?! ;)

twice ?! oops !

That disappearing fabric piece was such fun... :-)

Now I know how to apply the pocket on my apron in a much simplier way.
I will try this tomorrow...I can't wait.

(Sitting up 03.00 at night with a sick girl in my lap...stomach flue....ugh

Have a nice sunny Sunday!

I love your video, Toni! I make pockets almost the same way. I sew the three side, leaving a small opening for turning.

That was a super cute video!
I think you did a great job, and I don't make my pockets that way either!
I think this way is much better - I'm always annoyed at having raw seams on the inside - not anymore!

You've definitely taught me something new and helpful - thanks!

This is great. I need all the help I can get so I appreciate this. Well done!

And I have to admit Micah's comment and the disappearing fabric made me laugh out loud!

Thank you, Toni, for this tutorial! I've made pockets the single layer fold-over way--much more fiddly--but this is so much better, so it's this way from now on. The comic relief of Micah and the creeping fabric are just perfect.

Lynn

Thank you for the tutorial!

Great tutorial. I know it sounds weird, but its nice to put a "voice" to the face.

Don't apologize for your lovely video! I do my pockets in a similar way because I HATE turning and ironing and seeing the seams. I actually make my pockets as if I'm going to make a pillow and just leave about an inch unsewn. I then turn and press, putting the side with the opening to the bottom and then top stitch the three sides. This way I don't have to turn anything under as the one inch opening sort of turns itself under.

It is hard to explain sewing, isn't it???
Great job to all the video helpers.

What a lovely tutorial! SO helpful! :) I am in the midst of making a summer wardrobe for my girls, so this is very timely. Thank you again! :)

I have some big news over at my blog as well, so if you have a moment, pop on over and take a peek. HUGS!

Kristin
